Stressed out garlic

So we had an unusually warm January, with a slightly colder than normal February and with the normal wild temperature swings my garden experiences, my softneck garlic freaked out. Both pictures are of Tzan. I suspect this happens when the garlic gets a hard freeze at a certain maturity stage. And yes, I pulled cloves up when it first started the secondary sprouting, and no, they were not ready so it’s not because I left them in the ground too long.

Does this happen to anyone else’s garlic?
