Variety is scarlet prince. Fruit in lower canopy of the tree, well shaded. What caused this? What causes peaches to be stringy?
Are the lower canopy fruit the only stringy ones? They look very juicy. How do they taste compared to non stringy ones from other parts of the tree?
I noticed with nectarines, that the ones exposed to more sun seem to look and taste better.
Sorry, can’t help with the stringy question.
I find it is mainly based on variety but I don’t know that one in particular. Some peaches are just genetically stringy. The older varieties are on average a lot more stringy but the modern breeding has done a good job of breeding it out. Are these guys usually not stringy?
They have a slight off flavor. Just the fruit in the lower canopy is a problem.
They usually are not. I think Scarlet Prince is a more modern variety too. It’s not just one tree either, but it’s not all of that variety. Its very random.
I have heard that peaches left too long on the tree to fully ripen can become stringy. After unusually cool weather for example. The last to ripen on my trees always taste a bit bland [but not stringy].The same for plums too.
I think you might have a point actually. I left my plums on the tree a bit too long, they tasted off and they were more fibrous.
