I wanted to apply some sulfur to my soil ASAP to get ready to plant acidic loving plants in the spring. The ground is frozen and it’s about 26 degrees outside with no sign of getting warmer soon. Should I apply the sulfur now, fully knowing it won’t breakdown fully until much later, or should I wait to apply it when I plant?
It won’t hurt to apply it now provided it won’t wash away. But really there is no advantage to applying now unless it just fits into your schedule better. It needs to be incorporated for best effect.
Thank you! I don’t think it will wash away and due to some travel plans, it’s either now or march.
I am reading and educating myself on adding Sulphur to the soil, preparing soil for blueberry plants. It takes bacteria/microbes to convert element Sulphur for plants to use. Here’s link from OSU. I found it helpful.

Thank you! Yes I planned to add it earlier but before I knew it, it’s December. My soil is around 6.25, so I need to drop it by quite a bit to make them happy. I hope the sulfur will start to work its magic as they grow. I’m trying them as a hedge against a fence, so I don’t mind them not fruiting for a few years. Hopefully that’ll give me time to add more sulfur in a few months again too. I’ll report back on if this worked (or if everything died )
