I am curious if anyone uses branch bending, notching and other methods on sweet cherries. I have done a fair amount on apples but I never have tried on sweet cherries. Have you used these techniques on sweet cherries?

I tried notching on one sweet cherry twice last year and the same one this year. No success. Not sure if I’m doing it wrong or if the tree just doesn’t respond to suggestions. I ended up pruning it and it has put out 5 branches right where I wanted it to, so, I guess I still got what I wanted!

I did my cherry notching around Feb on my cherries, some buds responded (but not a very high percentage). I’d say my notching was far more successful on my apple, pear, and plum trees.
Yes, I am bending the branches on all my cherry trees as I am attempting to train them as small bi-axis espalier style trees using the UFO pruning method.
