Galinas left, but I don’t know whether she was an original.
Cool to see that many of you have been here for a long time. I’m a youngster (my first fruit tree is 2 years old…), but excited to learn from y’all

I lurked for a bit before joining on April 8th 2015.
Interesting that Discourse shows the join date for other people:
But not myself:
Simply logging out and viewing the Growing Fruit{your username}/summary page does show it though. Perhaps it’s visible somewhere else while logged in?
2018 for me… Grafted my first tree in 2015 but didn’t find this site for a few years.
I was lurking on Garden Web as early as 2009, dreaming about container mangoes after reading about some midwestern person who apparently had a lot of sub/tropicals. I think I joined there some time in 2012… then lurked on this site for a VERY long time, from its inception until a few years ago, when I ran into a member in person and they encouraged me to join.
I think I had felt I didn’t have much to contribute because most of my plants/trees were containerized until our last move to a bigger property. I also had felt forums were a big commitment to be experienced effectively, having grown up in the early days of web forums and IRC. Debatable points, but I’m glad I joined.
Showing my age… My first internet email address used uumail addressing, which preceded modern use of the “@” symbol. It was: …!uunet!medsys!wendell
Here since March, 2015. Fabulous distraction from other things, not to mention the best guidance, trades, etc.
Wandered over from Houzz (GardenWeb) Feb. 12, 2015. So I’ve been a member for more than 16% of my life and the majority of my ”fruit” years.
Wendell, you’ll find it on this page:
Most of us were here and happily posting away in 2015. I am a life long fruit and veggie grower. I think many here fit in that category. Before we had internet i had hundreds of books. Before i could afford books i learned from family and friends. I remember sitting in a carrier before i could walk watching my mom working in the garden with green beans and tomatoes. By 2 -3 years old i pushed some green beans in the ground that grew. My mom was happy with me and upset that i planted them in the way. She said everyone went around them and we did eat the beans they made. I never had any other way of life. My family taught me the spray free methods and lets face it i learned a lot of great methods on gardenweb before they sold out. I appreciate everyone and learn from all of you and always will. As a group we are a very strong authority on orchards and plant care in general.
I was on Garden Web several years before switching over when Scott started this forum. This group has really fed my fruit addiction.
I was on the old GardenWeb forum sometime in 1996…long before Houzz bought them out. Never got sent to Disney, though I may have come close.
Joined Growingfruit.org on 19 Feb 2015. Thanks, Scott, for the invitation.
What do you mean by that, if I’m not being too nosey?
I’m completely disabled now and rarely post, but i do still enjoy the forum. I was with gardenweb way back when jellyman was the authority to listen to.
If you posted something that the moderators took exception to, you were directed to a Disney site. IDK, at this late date, if you were blocked/banned for a specific period of time…
Ok thanks, just wondering. That’s odd they’d do that.
I copied every one of Jellyman’s posts and ended up with
quite a reference guide that I still use today.
Don ‘Jellyman’ Yellman was a gem.
Joined july 3, 2015. I was on Gardenweb and the original citrus growers forum before then. 10 years flew by fast!
