Recently someone asked if I had enough rootstock trees to put all my new pears on and I replied that I thought so but I would need to check how much some of the rootstocks grew last year. The next question is always what if they did not grow enough? 3 1/2 acres of aronias is my ace in my sleeve if I ever run out of rootstock! I can park pear scions on aronia bushes indefinitely. @ampersand had a shipova flower in less than 1/2 of the normal time using aronia as a rootstock. See this old link on some experiments Kelby is doing Aronia as rootstock. I could literally graft a thousand scions if time permitted and never run out of places Aronia Harvest.
I don’t know if I heard the details of that one. So 8 years instead of 16
I grafted Shipova to a couple of aronia and they took. Aronia seems to make spontaneous seedlings pretty readily compared to other berries.
