Timing for dividing Alpine Strawberries in zone 5

I realize I have to divide (ancient) Alpine strawberry plants in my Zone 5B garden in New England. We are getting some relatively cooler days soon, after high heat/humidity. We have an official First frost date of October 7th (10 weeks from now), but it hasn’t been the case in years, and we have Indian Summer afterwards, where the temps stay high-ish through October. Would it be too late in the season to divide the plants now, for them to get a good root system before the harsh winter, or should I wait till next Spring?
