They are! It looks like you have a nice little mix there. Assuming you did some sampling—any favorites?

A few new ones for me today. Helsing junction blue on the left, prairie fire on the right. Im really liking the prairie fire—very sweet, very juicy.

So many, lol. I really enjoy having a mix for various uses. But I’ll do a quick taste review of some of my favorites or rare types as I go along. For a larger slicer/beefsteak I join @scottfsmith as a big fan of stump of the world.

Probably my all time favorite for a larger fruited type is Morado de Fitero which has a more intense taste than stump and is a beautiful dark umber/rust color - not quite purple or dark tomato and with a bit more brown in the color than regular red tomatoes. It is fairly late season, so I’m at least a few weeks away from my first of those.

What did you think of Helsing junction? It is the dark one in the bowl on the left in my pictures and I’ve grown it for a few years on and off. A good grower and tasty to my palate, but I’ll take Brad’s atomic grape over any of the other antho cherries I’ve tried. My niece is a big fan of dancing with smurfs, but I think the goofy name is part of the appeal.

Helsing junction taste good, similar to the black strawberry I’ve been getting. Pretty balanced tasting tomato. It is the most vigorous grower for me this year, it’s was the first one to reach the top of my 8ft trellis. It’s productive too—there are a lot of tomatoes set and ripening up.

I’ve tried quite a few in gazpacho so far (I was away, and came back to a bit of a glut), but Gloria’s Treat has been a standout on it’s own, at least for those who like sweet tomatoes.

Some of the others, now ripe.

Uluru Ochre

Mallee Rose is having an amazing year.

This is my first time with Caitydid, and I am impressed with her performance in almost two weeks of triple digits.

A recurring favorite, at least for beauty and productivity. I wish I was better equipt to talk about flavors.

Sweet million- grew this instead of sweet 100 this year. Tastes very much the same, maybe a tad larger than usual but could be weather or something.

Ice - not as sweet as most typical cherry but nice tomato to mix up the flavors in my bowl.

First dwarf tomato this year— Mary’s cherry. Good cocktail size, less sweet than some of the sweetest ones. Very juicy. Lost 2 of 3 ripe ones to huge cracks. This one had a large crack too but was the best of 3.

Apricot Zebra- very prolific producing plant. My first one of the year was kind of ehhhh. As they keep coming in- I’ve changed my mind- I am a really big fan and usually these are eaten fairly quickly. It has really good sugar, and a meatiness that I really like. Cocktail size—slightly smaller than a golf ball.

Hungarian heart

good flavor, not very sweet, meaty, very few seeds. I’m looking forward to making sauce with this one once production kicks in.

Frist small bowl of currant tomatoes. Small but big on flavor. Really impressed with these so far.

Our tomatoes have hardly set any fruit yet, but finally have lots of blossoms. They seem late this year. Nothing anywhere near ripe except one clump of a black cherry tomato.

This plant is pretty neat looking with the variegated foliage. Taste was on the fruity side.

Ah, but is it Radiator Charlie’s mortgage lifter or is it Esther’s mortgage lifter?

I’ve been enjoying various tomatoes on open face sandwiches. Cherokee Green and 1884 Purple with some vegan meatballs, microgreens, olive oil, salt and pepper on a baguette.

Nizami (yellow oxheart) and Grightmire’s Pride, two of my favorite hearts, with hummus, hot sauce and pickles on a baguette.

Polaris (closer to a Cherokee purple than the picture shows) and Limmony (not pictured whole, but is the yellow chunks on the sandwich) with hummus, olive oil, a little pressed fresh garlic and basil on toasted olive bread

And here are a couple unintended crosses I’ve been growing out for a few years. The first is a mid sized yellow striped tomato that has been mostly like a little beefsteak, but this year one of the plants started throwing these elongated/pointed types. The working name is Highland Hero, since the original was grown out on Highland lake in CT. Taste is basically the same, so now I just need to decide if I should keep working on both, just got back to the flattened one or maybe the newer pointed shape is better. I can’t decide. Anyone I have given these to has proclaimed them one of the best tasting they’ve had. It is sweet and rich, but still has a nice acid punch.

And this one has been stable since I first got it in a package of seeds in a trade from someone who collects a lot of Russian and Ukranian varieties. It was supposed to be Black Prince, so for now I’ve just been calling it Not Black Prince. So I’m not sure if it is actually a different existing variety she put in the wrong package or if it was a new cross. It is a great saladette size, very productive, beautiful and very tasty as well. The red comes out more as they ripen further.

Dwarf Chocolate champion- average tomato flavor. It has nice eye appeal to me.

Rebel Starfighter - first one of the year was not great—mealy. This one was much better some sweetness and a bit fruity.

Top- Mr. Stripey
Middle- Black Krim
Bottom- Lucid Gem

Starting picking sun golds this week too—first time growing them—-seems like a fan favorite for pretty much everyone. They are very close in flavor to sun sugar which I grew last year. I think both varieties are excellent.
