Been feasting on Tropical almonds-Terminalia catappa. This year has proven to be a mast year. The kernels are the size of a large regular almond. The flavor is a mix of regular almond and green walnut. I happen to have two huge mature trees. For a locavore forager vegetarian like me, this is a boon because they are around 25% protein. The best way to get the kernels out of their shell I discovered is using a machete plus minus a hammer.
