Vampire plum: pictures wanted

I’m three years into orcharding. 70 trees planted the first year, two are fruiting (2 plums and 1 pear on the way.)

The plum is a supposed to be “Vampire” but is presenting as a 1.5” fruit that is yellowish green. I’m fearing that I got something that was mislabeled at the nursery.

Does anyone have some photos of vampire before it gets ripe? I’m hoping I just don’t know my fruit yet. (I’m realizing I should have taken a photo of it before posting this. I’ll post one tomorrow.)

Note: My focus has been on cider apples and Perry pears. They plums were a “why not” moment to get something different in the orchard. Hence, I’ve done very little homework in them, comparatively.

Thanks!

I only found one picture so far,by looking a little. Is your location in Canada?
Here is a short description, that includes some green and has the Plum being somewhat late to ripen, around the end of August.bb
VampireTM NEW (formerly V82053) A late mid-season plum with medium-large fruits. It has an attractive blend of shiny green and ruby red skin. The flesh is red and very juicy. Exhibits more cold tolerance than any other red-fleshed plum here.

Not quite in Canada… northern Michigan.

I’ve seen that photo but the description that came with it indicated red with a hint of yellow. In my mind, the fruit I’m seeing Aren’t medium sized either.

The only thing to do now, I’m guessing, is wait. But for how long? Assuming that plums are ripe when the flesh gives under pressure?

I’m not good at waiting!

Here they are. I’m having a really hard time seeing them develop into the photo above. These seem too oblong.

Seriously… if anyone has experience with vampire, please jump in!

Apologies for the blurriness… camera difficulties. Thus was the best I could manage.

An aside: this tree was the only one of my 70 that had issues with rose chaffers. The damage is what I get for not walking every row as frequently as I should. Had others shown damage, I would have known to look at all trees more closely. Live and learn…

Ya know how new parents see the smallest issue with their kid and they feel like they are endangering their kid’s life?

I must remember this moving forward.

It seems this is the plum described by the vendor. Unfortunately, they ripened and fell from the tree within a week, naturally a ridiculously busy week at work. So… one vanished. The other survived for me to find it deep inside the vol guard. It was over ripe, but still tasty. The skins had a really nice bright acidity to them and the juice… it seems there’s a reason the variety was named vampire.

Hi! How are they coming along this year?

All of my plums got tagged by frost. The trees are growing, at least.

Oh… I’m sorry for this year’s harvest! Keep us updated next year

It’s no big deal, really. The trees are still quite small/immature. More Time growing wood will just give better harvests later.
