Ventless Gas heater

Any suggestion for a 20x20 garage? thanks

Seer 24 split system heat pump. avoid Mitsubishi.

If it’s tight and well insulated a couple of Buddy heaters might make a big difference.

A heat pump could cool your garage also.

Many HVAC dealers will have their own prefered brand of wall mountable ventfree LP or Natural Gas heaters.

Many years ago when my Dad got to old to cut his own firewood… he replaced his wood stove with a ventfree natgas wall mount heater.

It worked very well.

They liked it so much… they added a very small version of the same to their bathroom.

What they had was similar to this wall mount heater available at TSC.

We have the Mr. Heater 30,000 BTU blue flame LP (no Natural Gas out here in the country). It seems to work well, I’ll be testing it more this spring when I do my grafting. Messing with it made me remember there was one in the cabin when we bought it, so I dug it out of the shed and plan to get it working again. It’s a 10,000 btu unit, LP, branded as a Glo-Warm. It appears they market the heater under a couple different names, Comfort Glow, Ready Heaters, all part of Desa Brands. All that one needs is a clean up and a regulator. Maintenance appears minimal, just a clean up of the igniter and pilot annually. Best to use these units in an area that doesn’t have a real tight insulation pkg. They can be hung on the wall, zero clearance on the back, or set up with a stand. Some have a fan option that can be installed, but I’ve heard they are noisy and not very effective, just set up your own fan to circulate air. I find a fan pulling air back down from the ceiling is effective as well. Most of the vent-free LP heaters offer radiant or blue flame. They’re probably not the most cost effective option if it’s a space you plan to use on a daily basis, but for occasional use they’re great. The Mr. Heater 30,000 BTU unit is rated for 1,000 sq ft, so at 400 sq ft you may be able to go to a smaller unit.

I suspose I may be a little old school. I have a 24x 60 garage, 3/4 of that we use as a multipupose room. The rest is office and a spare bedroom for visitors. I may be grafting one week, the next week working on a piece of farm equipment, the next week having freinds and family over for super. I heat it with a fisher momma bear wood stove. The garage is fully insulated and has a heat pump. The heat pump isnt worth a hill of beans when its below freezing outside. I have to set it to em heat which runs an the electric furnace and runs up the electric bill. The heat pump is OK for air conditioning in the summer though. But when its below freezing outside i turn off the heat pump all together and fire up the wood stove. Running the wood stove is much cheaper, besides wood heat is real heat. If I had access to coal I would burn coal instead.

Love a real wood fire…

Second best and much more convenient is a gas log fireplace… we have this one in our great room.

They can be thermostat controlled… and when we turn ours on with the ceiling fan on it warms up the entire middle of our home nicely (open floor plan)… and it shuts down the electeic heat pump.

If you have been out hunting for example and are cold to the bone… it will warm you up right quick.

With LP gas… flame looks quite realistic.

We’ve had LP logs before and there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. The big plus they are good and clean, no ash to clean up and no wood to haul in.
