I just got to try these grapes at a holiday party and was shocked how good these were for being from a store. These are black seedless grapes and are currently sold at Costco (at least by me).
Has anyone else tried these or know if this variety is available? I’d love to hear others opinions, suggestions for similar growing options, or if anyone has rooted store bought grapes.
‘BRS Vitória’ is a novel cultivar of black seedless table grape. Its main traits meet the most important demands from the viticulture segment in Brazil.It is recommended for cultivation in tropical and subtropical areas, with excellent horticultural performance, high bud fecundity and resistance to downy mildew, the most important disease which affects grapevines in Brazil.
Thanks for sharing @Richard. Too bad, Ohio isn’t going to cut it zone-wise then. Wonder if it’s been tested further north. I will certainly still purchase these every chance I get. Hopefully they spread to more grocery stores
@Jujube
Vitória’ is not the only cultivar of these elongated hybrids. The Resnicks ran trials a few years ago in California on a few developed by breeders out here. Perhaps the same has occurred in northern grape research centers.
Vitória’ has a lot of V. labrusca and some French hybrid in it’s background, so there is a good chance it’s pretty hardy. However, most of the varieties we see in stores these days are proprietary and only available to licensed growers, so I would not get my hopes up that it will become (legally) available anytime soon.
I bought a box of these on sunday after tasting them also. Question do half of your berries have a post frozen texture and the other half juicy? I think the berries might turn soft very quickly or intolerant of cold storage.
Costco had these today and I scooped some up. Classic intense Concord flavor (labrusca) but far more sweet, more so even than Sweet Shelly (NY47616). These were very ripe, perfectly ripe in fact, and were soft bodied almost to the point of being mushy without being dehydrated at all. These are the best tasting Concord varietal I’ve ever had but I’m partial to the flavor so it could be overpowering to people who are not. I’d get a vine if they come available in the USA although they were developed for the sub-tropics so no telling if they are hardy enough to persist in New England.
