Warren Pear in Vista CA

Mine had best flavor after between 3 and 5 days on the counter. Your pear looks like it is very close to ripe. Please post your thoughts on the flavor.

Also, Warren is known for production further south and in low chill area. There are very few other really good flavored pears that can handle low chill conditions as well.

Yes, mine seems too firm to slice at the moment. I’ve no experience with it, so I really appreciate the pointers.

Thank you. Today it is perfectly ripe and absolutely divine.

Congratulations! You have now become a pear snob. All other pears will be compared with this one.

More seriously, I’ve had a few that rival Warren, but I did not grow therm. I grew Warren and loved the flavor.

I have a Warren from Burnt Ridge that, if memory serves me, fruited its second spring after planting bare root. Two pears held till ripe and they were divine indeed. But the following two springs… no flower buds! Tree has been growing vigorously and appears in good health. My only thought is that dry spells in late summer made it stingy with forming flower buds for the next spring. Maybe that ameliorates as the roots keep growing.

Have any better ideas?
