I have 15 peach trees and they are all 5 years old from seed ( this spring will be their 5th)
Very heavy producers with incredible taste.
I’m in NE Ohio.
I keep them about 10-12ft tall.
The first year (2 years ago) I got fruit the peaches were absolutely massive and I want that size again. We had rain like mad that year. Last year was insane at the amount of fruit but again, not as big EVEN with heavy thinning.
I’m setting up multiple rain barrels and am wondering how much water I should give them in order to plump them up without harming the tree? And when exactly I should water more, if so.
I’ve been just letting the rain do all the work but since I’ll have essentially unlimited water why not use it.
More water dilutes the flavor more. Less water means higher sugar and flavor content @fruitnut is a master at water restriction to get more flavor and brix (in a greenhouse), he gives them just enough water to have the crop and next year’s flower buds survive
