And more Georgia Rattlesnake. It’s still hot and dry here.

I cut a GA Rattlesnake, picked a month ago. That weighed in at 34#. Still in good shape.
Ive been eating most of a melon every day for the past month, but they’re ‘going off’ pretty quickly now.

This guy was past it’s prime a bit

Juiced it and it’s pretty good!

I have been juicing the stragglers too. Easier and faster way to process all of them now that the weather is cooling.

I’ve slept since then, but I think that’s where it was… and somehow I managed not to get it in my ‘shopping cart’ when I placed the order.

I’d take a good watermelon over most other fruits. Here in KY I have never, ever had real success with watermelons although I’ve tried for the last 20 years. Last year I grew Sugar Cube cantaloupes and was super impressed with the longevity of the vines and the production. It’s a good problem when you have more melons than you know what to do with. I covered them with row cover until flowering started. I’ve tried many cantaloupes over the years and Sugar Cube seems like a winner and did better than any others. The melons are small but flavorful and very sweet, dark orange/yellow. Edisto 47 is also a good one for our area. We have super heavy insect pressure and powdery mildew so any melons here have to be very resilient.

Do you like Yellow Baby watermelons?

I think I’ve decided on growing Harvest Moon F1 next year and I am looking for a pollinator as the second and last watermelon to grow.

I was thinking of a non-white fleshed one like Yellow Baby.
