I was checking my hazelnuts and noticed this on “The Beast” from Rutgers. Does anyone know what it is?

See if it’s borer damage. Birch borers may jump over to hazelnuts. The girdling and flag damage I’ve seen I suspect comes from earwigs where there is poor air circulation and a worm. BT can knock it out.
