What ate my graft

Is this the work of the walnut caterpillar? This pecan graft was fine day before yesterday but was completely stripped of leaves this morning. With it being this late in the season do you think this graft will survive?

I’m going to say deer.

It should survive without any problems. Last year in August I had to dig out a pistachio tree because of an accident next to my house (towing company couldn’t get in). I put it in the ground the next day. It completely defoliated and stayed like that till this spring when it sprouted again and is growing fine now. Your tree doesn’t have severed roots or anything like that so it’s even better. It should be fine

Dont believe it was a deer. The tree was grafted at about 5 ft and the graft is right at 4 ft and there is not a broke twig on it anywhere.
