What can I do about cross pollination of Ayers this year?

I planted two pear trees in the fall of 2013, one is Ayers, The other one’s tag is lost, I don’t know the name any more, but I know it can cross pollinate with Ayers. It’s one of those popular ones available at big box stores.

The problem is Ayers now is in full bloom, the other one’s bud just start to show pink. I don’t think it will bloom in time to cross pollinate Ayers.

What can I do about Ayers this year? Can I find some flowering pear tree and use the flower to cross pollinate Ayers? If yes, how do I do it? Just get some flower and dust over the Ayers flower?

The second pear tree is significantly smaller than the Ayers, I hope that’s the reason why it’s so behind. Do you expert think, as the tree established more, it will catch up Ayers in terms of the timing of flowering?

Yes you can cross pollinate your tree with other pears that are flowering. You will need a very soft art brush or makeup brush to transfer the pollen. Good luck, Bill

thank you! now I just need to find other flowering pear tree . will let you know if i get any pear this year.
