What caused open cavity on nectarine

So, the fruit is still attached but I can see inside the fruit.

I sprayed some insecticide in there and no insects came out.

What can cause this? TIA

It’s caused by the rain, water inflate the flesh and like pit is sticker to the flesh, it’s opened , it’s important to grow low cracking varieties if you are living in an area with rains before harvest.

Cracked or split pit is caused by rain near harvest but can also be caused by sub freezing temps while flowering or early in fruit development. The fruit usually is still good. Harvest soon if unripe leave on the counter a few days.

Well that makes sense. we’ve had a boatload of rain. I think they’re a few weeks from maturity
