My son grew a silver maple from seed. This year the trunk started swelling above a certain point, but below that, it never increases in girth. Today, it broke off at that point.
Almost like a graft compatibility issue, but this isn’t grafted!!! I checked for something girdling it, but couldn’t identify it.
