This is the first year I’m getting a good harvest from my multi-grafted plum here in Vancouver, WA. The Beauty plums are the first to ripen and as they ripen, they’re all developing this disease on the shady side of each fruit. Underneath the skin damage, the flesh is brown down to the pit. The rest of the flesh is good. Also, the leaves look pretty good. Can anyone tell me what’s going on here? It doesn’t look like anything I can find pictures of on the internet.
My guess is it’s plum anthracnose. The description of your fruit seems to fit. You can look up how to treat anthracnose. Fungicide like Captan is suggested but spraying needs to start early on around bloom time.
To be certain, you can contact an extension services of your local university and send them the fruit samples for a proper diagnosis.
