I love to eat apples and start to grow them, but she does not touch it. She like sugar sweet fruits, but will not touch the berries from the Mulberry tree.
This is what she likes to grow, but I don’t think highly of it. She grows palm trees and to me, it’s just for the look. She grows tropical flower and to me, it’s not food. At least grow something you can eat. Then, she try to grow pineapple and to me, the plant is out of zone.
My wife is very picky about texture. Some of my favorite apple varieties are Spartan and Macintosh but she can’t stand those because they’re not crispy enough.
Love pear. The Asian pear is so sweet, but a bit pricey are the grocery store. I have one that is growing, but not a heavy producer. Last year we have couple of them and this year it refuse to give us any fruit. It wants to be a free loader this year.
I don’t blame her. I refuse to buy the red delicious apple at the store because of the baby food texture. You will have to bake it into a pie or mix it in a drink. It’s all about chemistry.
mine hates black currants. calls it the cat piss plant. tricked her into trying the juice by saying it was concord grape. she really likes it. got cut it alot as its way too concentrated to drink strait. 1 qt. makes about 4 gal.
My wifes favorites are figs, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, logans, blackberries, apples, pears… she tried jujube once… no more… she will eat goumi but not a big fan… she does not like messy things like american persimmons or muscadine… even though she likes the flavor she will not eat much of them.
She is a big fan of veggies… tomatoes, okra, squash, greens… and watermelons, cantaloupe from my flat garden.
My husband doesn’t like figs, but I have almost 20+ varieties here. He doesn’t eat jujubes and longans either. So I grow what I like, if he wants to eat them that’s fine, if not I eat some and give some away. It’s my joy of gardening, my garden is my play pen not his. I do 95% of the digging and planting, this is how I get my exercise.
I think the problem with red delicious is that it looks nearly the same on the outside whether it’s fresh and ripe or picked too early and stored for 18 months. Everyone has been burned often enough by mealy and tasteless red delicious to not trust them anymore. That, and I think those of us over about 35 years old are just tired of them. Growing up they were one of like three varieties you could get in the supermarket. My daughter is growing up with a dozen different great varieties of apple (during harvest season especially) and she actually likes red delicious. That made me reconsider them. Properly fresh and ripe they are not bad.
my partner plants and chooses things that need to be babied to survive, don’t make food (usually), and grow too big for their space, or that just die. he’s not picky and eat pretty much anything I grow, though. the good plum tree was their choice so I can’t complain too much. he planted two entire trees this year and forgot to tell me until I came across them
my stepson likes flowers, doesn’t like much fruit and veg. so he picks out useless decorative things, I’ve got several “flowering” tree varieties he’s brought home. I end up grafting to them, and I plant the flowers out in front of the place, I have no real plan out there anyway. usually they bring stuff home and I end up planting it but,
they can plant anything they want anywhere they want, I may fuss a little about things but I kind of enjoy the challenge of keeping weird stuff alive. don’t think my partner would complain no matter what I planted. and my stepson is just glad he’s allowed to pick things out once in a while
I like to grow things that grow easily and produce a lot, like bananas and artocarpus in the tropics. apples, pears, black currants, and hopefully persimmons get into that category eventually.
They will love the cocktail tree with both A and E pears. The best of both worlds. The only way to please everybody is to give them all what they deserve.
Kumquats are cute little fruits, but seem like a pain to peel and eat. Unless, you eat the whole thing as it is. However, since you like it then all the positive flavor is for you.
If you have enough space everyone can grow what they want to grow. I’m responsible for “my” plants, and he’s responsible for “his”, and though there are certainly plants we share, there’s a definite division…
You are the world top Chef and a Joker at the same time. What she does not know will benefit her. All type of fruits has healing ability and nutrients.
