What is a good tree protector to use for guy wires?

I had tried the tree protector that is made from fabric with brass eyelets. After a couple or three months they rot out. What do you use to protect trees when attaching guy wires to keep them straight?

Many of CA’s beaches were covered in oil wells! Especially So. Cal.

I run a wire through a piece of old water hose. It is very effective keeping the wire from damaging the tree.

I saved an old hose just for this purpose, hidden in a shed. Easy to cut & use.

I have used 1/2 in foam pipe insulation successfully. It is malleable so that a short pices under the wire will stay in place if the wire is cinched a bit. Pretty obvious it will not scar the trunk.

Old garden hose and smooth electric fence wire is about the best i’ve found.
