What is on my roses?! (Edit: rose gall wasp)

Hmm, never seen this before. William baffin rose.

I’m gonna guess some kind of fungal spirulation, if that’s the word. I don’t have many fungus problems but I bet somebody says “captan”.

Are they attached? How? Could they be just seeds of some tree landed there? I googled by image - nothing even close to this.

They are attached! I tried to get a pic that would show that, but it’s hard.

This pic seems to show the rose trying to bloom through whatever it is??

Rose galls from what I can guess.

So it is a wasp larvae…very interesting. I will have to keep an eye on it…will probably clip some off. The web says spraying will do nothing. I should maybe be alarmed but it is really cool i think!

Thanks @SamCOz5!

I’ve been growing roses for 25 years and have never seen this.
It might be a zonal thing.

There’s always something new to learn. I also grow roses in my front yard and never seen this on mine.
