What is your first graft of the 2020 season

Red Asian pear. 3 one bud bark grafts and hopefully one will take that is all.

Hopefully the low temp in your area will not prevent the grafts to take.

First? I think I’m well over 200 grafts this season.

And I have not started yet. Too many other things in my yard that need my attention before grafting.

And I’m still three weeks away. My trees have yet to leaf out - but my neighbor’s big apricot is going popcorn now!

My next project is after club apples like Kiku and Envy. A few more crosses then I am there. Getting real close. Lol…Hopefully they don’t turn out crab apple like before!!

And I’m around 130…and over half are definite takes. Pears and other items still in question, but most apples are good to go.

But, my first graft was an apple about March 1st outdoors onto a Antonovka root that I had been growing a couple years … the variety Winekist … and it has about 4 inches growth. Another early one grafted to a G890 from a rootstock that didn’t take last year…has 4 inches new growth…Monark variety.

I had heard the success rate would be lower, but grafted my first two 2-year wood grafts this year. The Braeburn has taken, and Anoka too early to tell.

About 150 bench grafts (apple), should finish up around 210-225 and then some grafts to seedling trees around the property.
