What kind of PH meter is a good one to get?
I’ve tried several of the cheaper ones, and they’re all inaccurate. You really need to spend a decent amount of money to get a reliable one, and even then you have to be diligent about calibrating it. Most of the time, I just use pH test strips or a pH test solution.
I have never bought any myself, but I’ve worked in labs all my life used the cheap ones and used expensive ones. I just don’t think they’re worth the investment for most people for soil testing.
I send off a small portion of a large well mixed sample to the university every couple of years and get a full analysis. Then I can use the sample that I saved as a control. That is the most important thing for repeatability and accuracy in any kind of testing is a good control. Then I prefer to use test strips they work well
Blue lab pens are the go to go all the cannabis growers I know. It has a reputation of long lasting quality. But, you must get the calibration and storage solution. You are supposed to calibrate them each time before use. Also, if they are stored with the tip out of the storage solution it dries out, and will no longer be accurate.
