What rare pears should i order from the usda in 2020?

My order is on its way from the usda. I actually got the real seckle from the usda after have tried multiple times to grow it and finding out it was not seckle. Same story with vermont beauty i went to the usda because many are not what they seem. Worden i have the usda version and from others and waiting to see this year what i have.

I had the same experience with Patten pear. Might not be an amazing pear, or might be worthwhile at the least. So, I have that coming to try.

Pears are the most widely mislabeled fruit trees around in my experience. My ayers was labeled red bartlett, kieffer was my small yellow pear, so on and so forth. People sometimes ask whats wrong with their bartlett and its kieffer or whats wrong with kieffer and its something ive never even seen but could be a kieffer seedling. I think nurseries have mixed up pears for a lot of years because they dont grow them to fruit.

That callery cross from Eliza Greenman is nearly identical to the one growing on a nearby property. I think callery will pick up the larger pear genetics long term to attract deer etc. to spread the seed.large%20callery

Took your advice as you know and grafted pai li it is flowering this year. I enjoyed the unusual flavor of ya li. Most Americans i do not think would like it as much as i do. What recommendations do you currently have?

Could you give a brief description of Ya Li? I have been after it because they claim it is a soft asian pear. Just wanted something different than the rest of the asian pears.

Thats not been my experience it has not been soft. Its snappy and crisp but not sugar sweet. Itā€™s refreshing to me in an odd way unlike any other pear i grow. The majority of people i do not believe would like it. If you like soft pears i would stick with drippinā€™ honey asian pear and European pears.
