Yes, I just had a bit of bad luck. I think i will put the cold frame over them in the spring. Thanks for the info.
I’m glad to hear that, Bill. So many people here inspire me and help keep me going. It’s nice to know that I can pass along a little bit, too.
Ginny, your pictures are fantastic! You have such a wonderful variety. Those ‘ugly’ squash make me glad that at least other people have success growing squashes. Every single type I’ve planted here was wiped out by pests once again. This year my only success with squash was a harvest of a grand total of 1 zuke. Borers, earwigs, squash bugs, and who knows what else were relentless. But somehow I succeeded in harvesting cukes for most of the summer. That’s a first for me. Who knows; maybe next year will be the Year of the Squash for me. We do love them, and the fall squashes are dense in nutrition.
Ginny! Your squashes are fantastic! Can you please take an ‘over-view’ photo of your vegetable garden (s)? Thanks!
mrsg, My garden is almost done for the season except the corn, squash and a few beans etc… My camera takes better shots up close, but I do have a few pictures I took at a distance. Some pictures are just of certain areas… I will see what I have on photobucket.
PS, My garden is nothing fancy, and it lives amongst the weeds!! Lol…
Ginny
Here is another shot of one part of my garden. Some tomato, zucchini and squash etc… Oh, and a comfy chair!!
Some of the tomatoes are caged, some are left to sprawl on the ground, and others are growing and tied to climb up a fence… I had around 80 or more tomato plants. I lost count.
Holy cow! No wonder you had so many tomatoes. I am expecting miracles from 14 plants! Amazing.
Thanks Ginny, your garden is vast. Do you feed an army? That is hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
German Butterball potatoes I just dug up. Part of the patch was in some shade in the early morning, so they did not produce large potatoes. I will be moving the patch to a better location next season.
Purple Viking Potatoes. They look more red than purple to me. I received the potato seed from SSE. Has anyone grown this variety? This is my first year growing PV. I thought they would be more of a darker purple color.
Very lovely mrsg! What variety of potatoes are you growing?
Sorry to hear about your pest problem. My squash did wonderful this year! Other years, not so much. I had a new bed that was a former area where our sheep and goats used to stay. Lot’s of well rotted manure. That helps. Sadly,my cucumbers struggled this year. I planted Boston pickling cukes, which usually do amazing for me. The production is outstanding for this variety. But, this year I was lucky to get the vines too produce a gallon of cukes. They did start to produce better later in the season, but then we had a frost last week. Go figure why some years crops do well some years and others don’t…
Thank you
Ginny
Rich Sweetness Melon. This beautiful little melon comes from the former Soviet Union. The fruit are actually red and striped with golden yellow, (and the vines stay compact.) They do not get very big, and can weigh about 1/4 pound, but the flesh is very sweet and white. Yummy!
The fruit actually fall off the vine when ripe. They have an incredible scent. This is my first year growing this variety.
