What's happening today 2016?

My tomatoes this year are growing off the hook. Not sure if it is just ideal weather for them, as it has been relatively cool this spring, but goodness, they are HUGE. Better Boy and Mountain Magic are just very, very vigorous growers. But, I have Campari seeds that are doing well, and my prized Coulles de Taureau seeds ALL germinated, and are doing very well, also (thank you, GInny!!)

I’m having a crazy tomato year, not ripe but all massive and setting heavily. Last year was terrible for me, so I’m thrilled with the turnabout. I only had one that started showing color, and I think it’s because it was bug damaged. My peppers, however, seem stalled.

Ditto that, MisterGuy. Same exact experience. I’ve never seen such tomato growth ever. Downside to growing indeterminate tomatoes in a raised bed during a big growth year is they get very tall, very fast. I may have to train them downward, now, so I can get to the ends of the branches to pick the tomatoes. Peppers are doing well this year as well. Going to really have to watch for hornworms - they are going to be hard to find in all the heavy growth. Ugh, my least favorite gardening chore.

Beautiful peonies! I’ll have to enjoy them in your photo this year because mine didn’t set a single bloom. I can look at yours and think, “Maybe next year.”

I sell them at Farmer’s Markets and this year they have an incredible amount of blossoms. I attribute that to a drier spring. Previously to this year the last 10 have been wet wet wet.

I read it takes six weeks to germinate and the usually they come up in August. I planted 32 in April in my heated garage. I have three peeking up. One grew with the seed still on it in the air and then it ripped in half. They are in my greenhouse now. The other two popping up look like a bean spout still in a u-turn with the seed still under the ground just like the top of yours. I might have to throw a party if they ever sprout! I have five kegs of beer on tap of home brew anyway, lol!

How do you keep them last longer in a vase. Mine last about two days. I can get roses to last a lot longer.

This year, the weather has been fluctuating. My peonies bloomed 3 weeks later in the heat so they looked miserable. Some are still blooming.

Here’s my handles with some clear oil on them. The tire I inflated after these pictures. I had to find my air chuck. The tire was flat like a pancake so getting it to sit up against the rim on both sides was harder than I thought. I had to do my trick with the starting fluid five times before it blew up onto the rim. What I do is spray either inside the tire and light it. the woof of the flame inflates the tire so fast it pushes the bead outward against the rim. Sometimes you don’t have to ad air. Sometimes on big truck tires you need to ad air right away before the bead pops back off. Some times your putting the tire out! This wood is so hard you can’t even mark it with your fingernail! You can see the old handles on the ground between the saw horses. I should have painted the metal but I wasn’t planing on putting time into this.

John, now you’re going to have to take care of the metal because those handles are going to last a very long time. Once you paint the metal, the wheelbarrow will be better than new.

I have a lot of rough sawed trees. I do have one of my property lines hedged with these trees, but I got these from the guy who owns the mill along with some walnut. He milled some 18’ oak tree trunks for me for $75. Then asked if I wanted some walnut and osage for another $25. I did leave a white oak tree trunk that was 9’ 6" long, 52’’ on the bottom and 49" in dia. on the top. He couldn’t get it on the mill! We picked it up with our crane at work and put it my trailer. The crane was in the red with the boom all the way in, and the outrigger sunk into the asphalt about one inch! His skidster almost couldn’t pull it off my trailer. He had my rear tires to my truck off the ground with the weight of the log pushing the trailer down in the back.
