The rabbits attack my fig trees. They sheer off suckers and strip bark. I’ve taken to leaving any suckers, stripped or otherwise, as they shield the trunk(s) from further attacks.
Caught another rabbit. I should make a nice pair of gloves out of him. If only i could sew. More damage. I’d shoot them all if i wasn’t in an area that prohibits discharging firearms
Brady (or anyone else),
What types of grafts do you do with those clippers?
Wow, those rabbits sounds like a real pain in the behind. I had no idea! They sound almost as bad as my darling rose beetles. No rabbits here thankfully, but there’s savage mongeese that pillage my brother’s hen houses.
I’m just watching as my little carrots really start to grow. Hopefully they will makes better taproots this time.
I make the diagonal cuts for whip and tongue with them and also whip(splice) graft, but I add the tongue with a knife.A box cutter utility knife, should be fine for this part.
Some people use the splice graft only, but I like the added hold the tongue gives.
The multi cutter may make the tongue, but a knife will probably do a better job.
It also can cut into small diameter root stock to make a cleft graft. Brady
A trick a friend uses in town, he opens a door or window and shoots 6-8’ deep in the house out the open window.
You should use a .17 or .22 pellet gun. They can pack a serious wallop. I bought a break-barrel Benjamin a few years ago from Cabelas and they thing will kill a rabbit no problem. That what I use for plinking around my house.
Encourage some raptors to live in your neighborhood!
Chikn,
I’m with you on that. Just remember, if using a pellet gun w/ a scope, the barrel is actually a few inches lower than the scope itself. The barrel and scope line up on a trajectory path at the point the scope is “sighted in” (say 25 yards). In other words the pellet doesn’t travel the path of the scope, rather travels the lower path of the barrel and “hits” whatever is in the cross hairs of the scope at 25 yards.
What this means practically is that if someone is aiming for something just above window sill “horizon”. He/she will likely hit the window sill, instead of eliminating the intended pest. I’ve experienced this. Twice.
I’ve become fairly proficient at vinyl window sill repair. They have kits.
That is a beautiful photograph!
It’s not mine. It was on CBS the other day, too cool not to share!
Olpea is this really you! You are so missed! Yea, welcome back!
I’ll see what i can do. I think i’m down to 1 remaining. I’ve removed around a dozen since back in Sept. I found major damage to a 10 year old apple tree (he ringed it about 3/4 of the way around)…but i think it will survive. Never again!
Now THAT is a snow angel!
Snow devil if you are a mouse. It is beautiful in natures own special way.
OK maybe a mouse angel taking one home.
the ‘ringing in the ears’ of our greenman
if mice are for hawks, then bugs are for hummers.
a predator of micro-proportions, but a raptor nonetheless.
