You could train it as a cordon.

Thanks Drew, that’s an interesting idea. This thing is starting to take up some valuable growing space. Brady
I have been trying to grow a cordon out of a red current for a few years. It’s not working great. I want to have one like Lee Reich eventually. I removed about 100 potential berries off the cordon so the top would grow more. Man that was tough!
Here is Lee’s Rovada cordon
Al this talk of Ribes I’m adding a few. First I have about 8 of them at my cottage. They have been there awhile and they are just not growing. I’m going up Saturday and digging a few out and bringing them here in the city. They grow fine here!
I picked up a golden currant
Not Crandall, but the golden currant is one that has some sub-species.
This nursery sells Crandall and Buffalo, so this is not them.
Both above now are considered sub-species of golden currant. Crandall has been reclassified from Ribes odoratum to Ribes aureum var. villosum.
I also bought a red one called Perfect. Ribes sativum ‘Perfection’
Hello, all my gooseberries have leafed out. The 2 older Pixwell have flowers. Tixia, Poorman, Jeane, Janh Pairie, Captivator are younger plants and have a few blossoms. All are in containers.
