When is this ripe

I have a cucurbit and I don’t know when its ripe.

I can’t find the seed packet for its name.
Can anyone tell me how to tell if it is ripe.

I think the neck will show signs of senescence when the seeds are fully ripe. I can’t say when is optimum for eating. That looks like one of those fad fruits from the 90s that I still see in stores occasionally.

This is Cucumis metuliferus. It turns yellow/orange when ripe.
