Hi all! It’s hovering around 50 degrees Fahrenheit here but my watermelon vines still seem fine. The watermelons are good sized and don’t seem to be getting bigger but, like I said, the vines are still green and so are the leaves. When do I pick them?
I find it comical that I searched “thump” to get this result and I didn’t have to do much scrolling
At least for the varieties I grow, when the curl on the stem of the melon and the curl one joint away on each side of the vine is also dead the melon is ready.
Winter queen & king watermelon I harvested when the leaves died and that turned out to be correct. For blacktail mountain I harvest when the tendril opposite the melon has turned brown and dried up
For context these are Congo melons. I’ll keep reading!
