Topsoil sold around here in bags has no real soil in it. More like a potting soil mix.

Here delivered topsoil can be purchased for $20/yard. Compost $30/yard. Usually 3 or 5 yard minimum. Topsoil from the town can be picked up for free.

In agriculture, we discuss growing media. Ignoring hydroponics, there are two basic types: soil and soilless. This is an important distinction in terms of licensed nursery shipments. It is also important in terms of chemical and texture properties preferred by individual plants. A majority of potting mixes sold in retail nurseries are soilless. If you want soil, you’ll need to add in sand rated for landscape plantings.

That’s great. Out here they want $50 a cubic yard for their ‘house’ soil. It is $65 to deliver. No freebies here.

What kind of sand is best to use Richard? They got playground sand and brown sand like is used in mortar mix.
