…Started to pick some Redhaven in Z6A last week. Man, the Redhaven is an outstanding peach!
I have Redhaven and Loring. At my location the Loring seems to be about 1 week behind the Redhaven + or - a couple days. My Redhaven currently are almost but not quite ready to pick.
Is Redhaven your earliest peach?
Yes, but considering I only have Redhaven, Loring, and a Saturn that has never fruited that might not mean much.
John Boy is an early ripening sport of Loring and ripens well after Red Haven here- over a week later. Loring ripens about with Coral Star and is a mid-season peach of high quality with allegedly tender flowers. Here, that tenderness rarely seems to make a difference in reliability. It is a very good mid-season peach and I cannot think of any better.
Flavor May is my earliest peach and one everyone impatient for a high quality early should grow, IMO. What I’m trying to find is a really good peach that ripens between its season and Red Haven’s. FM ripens over a month before Redhaven, which is a very late July or early August peach here.
Glenglo is good but I’d like something a week earlier. It may be PF Big but Desiree strikes out for me. I’m hoping on Early Star.
Go to Adams County Nursery’s web site and find their ripening chart. It isn’t 100% accurate for me but the peaches are mostly correct in terms of sequence.
Planted Early Star @ Bailey myself this year. Hopefully, it will be somewhat bud-hardy for an early peach.
I’m giving the newer Fiesta Gem a try. Think it’s supposed to be in that gap.
Also trialing Ruby Prince. Some say it gets split pit though.
