I planted many wild apples and many of my fruits i bred to be prolific. Those who grow my new varities know they are more wild than they are tame. I tend to give nature a hand. These wild apples may become more common than elm trees. I suppose i could make some crosses with them to make them even more prolific. These may be some escapees of one of my many projects.
It’s that time of year again in Kansas for the peak blackberry season. Before 7:00 am we picked 2 gallons. Blackberry season started about a week and a half ago with a light crop. The crop will progressively increase until the 25th or so and then declines the way it started. I planted a couple of acres 20 years ago. How are the blackberries doing in your area? [image] [image]
It’s that time of year again to start harvesting some of my seedling apples for making cider. I did not bother to spray them this year and they don’t look terrible all things considered. We will slice off the best parts for the cider and plant all the cores peels etc under a few inches of soil. I wish everyone would plant some apples to do this with. This is the best part of life. I use a juicer to make the cider rather than a press for small amounts [image]

Years ago Mike saw these at my property and has grown t…

Clark was so kind to offer his leftover scions. Here’s what was a Red Bartlett I picked up at Wal-mart and yesterday I removed the last nurse branches of the Bartlett. I now have a 5-6’ “Small Yellow Pear.” I also have a great supply of bench grafts Thanks Clark, you’re a good man.

P.s. Harrow Sweet is the only pollenizer Clark knows for it.
