3 of these will be dinner/freezer this week. To many roosters. I’ve got 6 Big Reds coming this week all hens And one rooster and one hen Bielefelder. Another 16 mixed hens coming in June. Hopefully that will be a much better mix.

This is from my neighbor. We have Bobcats in Mercer County, IL. (NW IL) The rest of the Bobcats are in far-southern, IL>

I’ve seen this one for a flash second one sunset a mile the crow flies from my home as I drove an arching corner of hwy with cornfields on each side and knew I saw a large cat and low and behold the internet told me there’s at least one in my county. I approached my neighbor and he has photos of more than one…

I believe they live in this valley where I am on the tail of. It extends quite a stretch and is unlike how you would think of IL. Some of this valley here is reminiscent of Ireland or Scotland. It’s so tall and wide and hilly and trees along the tops of the valley peaks that it looks like it would take a long time to walk up some of the hills. This area of IL has tall bluffs on the Mississippi, too. It’s the most fertile soil in any county of IL, too. How these cats got here is another question that remains yet to be known.

Kentucky has cats. Even bobcats.

I guess it rare to say that driving to Florida the 13 or 14 times we did as a family that, IL took up 1/3 or 2/3rd’s of the route.

I wonder if people and wild bobcats could share a not too large of a space? You might know @BlueBerry . I’m just kind of wondering if they like persimmons or will be drawn to persimmons as well as a small (6-acre) parcel full of food from hardwoods. I mean everything from berries to big fruit hanging off trees and nuts. But, this plac is going to become a persimmon breeding station with a lot of trees; in the many hundreds… 6-800. I just wonder what kind of wildlife is going to happen. Lots to visualize.

Alright, thanks for your response.

Edit: a space where the bobcats and I are like man/woman and wild friendship. I mean it in all seriousness… Grisely Adams - did it. Why cannot I? Very-easy, I think . . . just thinking about it .

I had a first cousin…deceased several years…
but he had a bobcat as a pet until it got big and he let it out into the forest…or maybe the family let it go after his demise…IDK.
Couple years ago a neighbor deer hunting killed it from a tree stand. So it didn’t stray too far from ‘home’.

Why did he shoot it? I’m assuming they aren’t dangerous to cattle. They’d kill a person’s dog though I would think if they were hungry enough and any dog isn’t too large.

Are they dangerous to humans?

IDK—some people have 100 stuffed animals in their offices…I did a small project for an attorney in Lonon KY…met a real-looking bear just inside his door.
Another customer has a lynx, turkey, raccoon, deer and little ones, and the like inside his home.
People ignore speed limits…and many many other rules if it suits their fancy.

There is a defined hunting season for bobcats in KY, as well as for other furbearers.
TNHunter may be able to give us some inkling of the value of a bobcat pelt, but I’d hazard that most that are killed here end up as taxidermy specimens.

Only stuffed animal in our house is a groundhog study skin that my youngest son came up with somewhere. We often position it around the house in strategic locations to frighten visitors. Bwahahaha!

Guy Sternberg got bee/wasp hives hanging everywhere from his living room ceiling. It’s pretty rad.

I have a bobcat stuffed. We have a 6 month long season in Florida where I am. It just ended come to think of it. They’re usually pretty small but very, very plentiful and eat all the ground eggs as well.

Other animals in my garden. New chicks are here.

9 and all appear very healthy.

What type(s) of chicks are those?

2 Bielefelder. 6 big Red Murray and one mystery. McMurray will send a mystery unsexed no identified breed for buying 6. Hopefully it’s not a rooster. I have 2 roosters and that’s plenty.

I’m just learning about chickens/birds. They looked like they might of been silkies which interest me and the only ones that interest me for more of a friendship. Thanks, Dutch.

Yes sir. They say the Bielefelder is a very docile large family favorite and very good with Kids. I’ve picked mostly for meat and eggs. I have a mix of 15 layers coming in July. I actually plan to keep the Bielefelders for basic pets.

Dax. if you want some for just pets, check out the silver duckwing bantams. ive had alot of breeds and hands down these are super friendly. my hen died of unknown causes a few years ago but my roo is 5 and is under 1/2 lbs. the female was even smaller. he comes to me to get picked up and is always under foot. they are even more popular as pets in Japan and they keep them indoor in cages like parrots. he crows very infrequently and is about 1/4 as loud as a bigger rooster. silkies are nice too but not as friendly as these.
