Anyone ever plant in there basement window wells?

I do not have any window wells, but I have walked by plenty that seem to grow weeds well beyond when the other weeds are dead. If you could easily remove the cover or access from the basement then I think it would be an ideal cold frame.

Some window wells are designed for emergency egress from the basement. In these cases rigid or woody plants should probably be avoided.

I don’t currently have window wells and the windows are bared. The old owners where a little paranoid it would seem. I am going to install new windows and wells to prevent major water ingress during major storms. I think it will be filled with gravel all the way down to floor level. I’m thinking hydroponic herb garden.
