Our Ya Lis always lasted through April. It was my absolute favorite–crispy, juicy, light. It wasn’t heavily flavored at all, but that was one of the things I liked best about it. (But we lost the tree to fire blight, which bummed me out no end).

I’ve had some that weren’t terrible, but the more round/apple-shaped “Crown”/“Snow” pears are usually really good. I’m not sure how old they are when they get to the US, but when I’ve left one in the fridge for a month I think the flavor improved.
In SE PA I’ve seen a few Upicks places with European pears. But growers seem to have mostly dropped growing Bartlett/Anjou/Bosc because FB wipes out big chunks of the orchards too often. So it’s good pears that normies have never heard of, will never see in the grocery store, and are less willing to take a chance on.
