I was able to make a small graft of each Dasui Li , Ya Li , Crispy Red Asian pear, Shinko, Pai Li,
Korean Giant and drippin honey Asian pears for the new place but they were on small Callery rootstocks so it will be a good while before I see any production.

I grafted Pa Li and Ya Li but sadly Ya Li died. Pa Li is a great Asian pear. I didn’t bother to buy another Ya Li to graft. How does it compare to Pa Li? thx

Ya li is large, mildly sweet but very perfumely fragrant and I am not sure if everyone like to eat perfume. My wife loves Pai Li. It is large if you super thinning them because they are so load to the point of branch breakage. It is the only Asian pear that can eat sweet, crunchy or let ripen soft like an European pear. It is a keeper for sure and it should be a great specimen for further crossing to make a new hybrid Asian pear.

Thx. My Pa Li were small nonetheless tasty. I didn’t thin and also growing in a pot. interesting about Ya Li. They were loaded already but many self aborted. I bought Kenko and Taylor this spring both grafts took. I pruned both grafts this year, hoping it will trigger them to fruit next year. If I didn’t prune I would be able to trade 1 cutting of each :frowning:

Do your Paili pears have a lot of grits and a big core? I got my scions from 2 sources, both look and grow like a Paili but fruits all have grits. Otherwise fruits are sweet and fragrant.

My Pain Li fruit doesn’t have grits.

Then that’s the Paili I remember from eating in Beijing where it originally grew. It’s very difficult to find Paili even in Beijing nowadays.

Yes. I got mine scion from USDA Corvallis about 10 years ago. PM me in February so we can swap for something.

Ya Li was my all-time favorite Asian Pear (not my husband’s though, as he prefers more strongly flavored pears), and our pears kept through April. But the tree succumbed in a very bad fireblight year…

I had scion wood from Ya Li and Tsu Li but grafted it onto a friends trees. They sell Ya Li at the local market for pretty cheap.
