I was rabbit hunting yesterday and took the pics with my phone . Tried to find some rooted tips . Rabbits had ate the tips before they rooted . So i took tip cuttings to pot up . Hoping these root in the cool garage . I have found these many places over the last 30-40 years . Pictures are poor but you can see the yellow canes .OK how do I add pictures .
Hard to see from the photos. The wild yellow cap around here also is strange in that is has yellow canes. Most black raspberries have purple canes. The yellow variants of the reds have canes that look like the reds. here is a photos of one of my plants.
I will have to get a picture with my camera . Phone is not that great .Just trying to share how easy they are to spot in a wild patch during the winter .
Wow, those look even more yellow than mine! I just took some more photos
I just traded the last root tip I had.
I wonder if mine are the same or not? My canes are more green than yellow. Yours look yellow. Tyler in Ontario gave me mine and I have photos of the fruit. Curious if you have a different yellow cap?
Tyler sent me these photos
I will have a decent crop this year and take more photos.
I have found these in many different places over the last 45 years . They are just a mutation in the blacks .
Right but many wild varieties are very different, even possible sub-species. We have a very small wild black raspberry here. It is so different in taste and size than the cultivated types. I have never seen a yellow mutation in 50 years where I have foraged for these small black raspberries.I agree the yellow variety comes from a black which is often right there with the yellows. Brown and red caps also exist in the wild. Some wilds are primocane fruiting. So my question is are these the same variety? Or do they differ? These wild types are extremely valuable for breeding.
I have never seen a ‘yellow’ cap raspberry in person. They are similar to my ‘jewel’ black raspberry in structure. More round in shape. I would love to try to grow some of those yellow sticks. Do you have any extra? Please let me know.
Some are growing good . Some failed to root .
