Friend asked me about spots. I’m not familiar. This tree is in SW Virginia.
Is this cedar rust?
Look like it but it kinda late for it now.
I vote for CAR, lesions can take awhile to show up sometimes. Even when the cedars have long since stopped producing the spores.
Many of my grafted apples are showing some Cedar Apple Rust. I’ve not taken time to note which varieties have been hit the hardest. (Some seedlings seem to have it the worst.)
None appear threatened to die from it.
And some appear resistant.
Honestly, it just happens. I see some of this every year, and lose a few leaves to it too as the whole leaf yellows. I don’t think it’s CAR, as I didn’t spray for it and those lesions tend to stay orange and develop the raised tube structures.
Thanks it’s a Crimson Crisp on Eml111 that was a present to a friend. They lost the first graft which was a Zestar on Eml111.
So they are very protective of this gift. With the cicadas in their area they have netted it as well as caged it from the deer.
The first tree was hit by a truck that ran off the road during a snow storm.
You know how it is when you give a living gift how attached someone can get. Was a sad loss so this new tree is very babied.
Thanks for all the replies.
