Your most hated tree

Have you tried grafting peaches onto prunus americana/wild plum rootstock to deal with borers? I have two peaches on prunus americana and they seem to be doing ok, though they are less vigorous.

New hated tree … Oak trees, my eyes do not appreciate all your pollen !

I dont remember anyone taking coon and there’s a ton of them up here. seen/ shot some 50lb. males. couldnt take bobcat as we had Canadian lynxs here and they are protected. now more lynx than ‘cats. fisher back in the 80’s was like $200. beaver got $20 for a small up to $40 for a large. mink and pine marten were $80- 90. yotes’ got $70. the only ones of these targeted now are yotes’ and beaver but for nuiscance removal and cats’ can be harvested when run with dogs and id’ed when treed.

or leaves that take forever to break down.

@EJh … I have thousands of oaks on my 30 acres here. By far the most common tree.

Chestnut, White and Post are most numerous… but lots of Red and Black oaks too.

Our big oak bloom happened a couple weeks ago here… I was working on our new home site clearing that week… got the crud for about a week and a half.

Wearing a mask… hate it… but it helps.
Before going to bed… benadryl or alkaselzer plus severe cold… worked well for me.

I am not into grafting. I just buy bareroot varieties. Now that I know the issue I am taking several precautions. Still need to figure out what works but I am on it now.

Yeah, they have been going for about a week here. No cough or sneezing, but both my eyes swelled up and got a rash. I basically walk my dog under oak lined sidewalks, along with hickory trees. I get a pollen shower, I’ve started taking a shower when I get home from walking the dog.

We have been getting a lot of rain the last 3 or 4 days, and it looks like someone used yellow green chalk on the sidewalks from all the pollen. Wonder if it’s gonna be another big acorn year.

Add stinging nettle to my list. It got me through my glove. I was pulling weeds in my pots and did not realize what i was pulling.

I’ve realized I also hate gingko and Bradford simply because they are planted near where I have to park for work and the STINK and it sticks to my car and my car smells like alley sex (graphic but not as graphic as I would like to be, it’s really bad)

I’m surprised the Siberian Elm isn’t getting more attention as being the true pest it is. In my part of Kansas, it’s the single most invasive tree, worse than callery pear. Each one produces bushels of wind blown seeds, and they crack and break with the slightest wind. Worse yet, they’re the ugliest tree on God’s green earth.

Buckthorn. It’s beyond invasive here. All the woods are choked with it. Cut it down and it’ll grow back worse than before. Large trees can be killed with glycophosate, but they set so many seedlings (best removed by yanking) that it takes hours to clear an area the size of a room.

if I can get away with tearing them out of the parking lot at work I’ll give them directly to you haha

@JVD the city was giving those away here!! noooo

A neighboring city just paid homeowners along a main road to remove all Siberian Elms. They paid for remediation and paid for new trees to replace them. The rationale is they’re so ugly they blighted the neighborhood.
