Any day now, I have 2 Satsuma trees and this one is loaded with fruit.
Because of more chillier temperatures starting,Citrus and other warm loving plants were moved in a greenhouse.
Here is a photo of the only Xie Shan Satsuma fruit.Others were cooked by the sudden heat wave, earlier in the year.Is this the best time to pick for flavor? There was a Houzz article, where a grower picked theirs, while still green and was reported to taste okay.So maybe now is fine?
If this is normal ripening for my area, this will be a good one to grow.
Guava season is quite late here due to mild summer. Lemon, pineapple (Nikita) and Malaysian Red guavas
Do you heat your greenhouse over the winter?
Yes,there is a small electric heater, that keeps the minimum at about 40F.
Is that the only citrus fruit? How old of a tree is that? Looks ready to pick to me.
I’ve had the tree for a couple of years,is about three feet tall and that’s the only one.The last day or two have been sunny,so maybe that will help add a little sweetness.
There is another, probably Gold Nugget, that regrew fruit, but they are unripe and small. If they do ripen, that will be next year.
Those look a lot like Roxbury russet!
What variety of feijoa? Let’s see inside!
Hi! It’s apollo and mammoth i think… ok i will do it…
Keto meatloaf for dinner tonight… with perhaps the last 12 inch skillet full of fresh okra. Love this stuff… much cooler weather sure puts the brakes on okra production.
Yep…I bought a pack of frozen okra Friday.
The Xie shan fruit was harvested.Peeling was easy, but in small pieces.Flavor was mild with some zing,at 15 brix. For a first one,I’m happy.
What does three inside look like?
What? The araças?
I have two merc thermometers on the back porch… one showed 32… the other 33 this morning.
Light frost… sparkle on grass and other stuff.
Toasted my okra… it is wimpy to cold for sure. My basil patch got toasted too… extreme basil fragrance released…
My ch fig… fared pretty well… just a bit of leaf curl in a few spots… hope those continue to ripen… near 100 figs still on.
Got my amazon order of floating row cover in today… my greens are hopefully set to weather cooler temps.
Sad okra leaves…
