How do you like the taste? I’m planning to replace my Caroline with a yellow (likely Anne)
I tend to not wait until they are fully ripe, since I don’t like them too soft. Even then they are sweet, tropical flavor with a sour after taste. When they are fully ripe they are more sweet. I have tasted fall gold in a nursery and found them bland, but none of the Anne’s I tasted were bland.
The fruit is supposed to bigger, so I am hoping it gets better as the plant ages.
I got to hoe my little late greens patch today… looking good.
Black seeded simpson lettuce… spinach… bok choy… and a specialty leaf lettuce mix in that little bed.
im jealous. growing season is done here.
@steveb4 … this bed is not a sure bet at all. It all germinated well… and should survive a few light frost… sometimes… like last year we dont get a killing frost until early Dec.
If they can grow another 30 40 days… we may get to eat some of that.
Rose of sharon?
Maybe. I know little to nothing about flowers. My dads neighbor planted it along his property and he was curious what is was.
Nice. They are not ready until April here!
In the Hibiscus family. Probably rose of sharon.
With all this rain and high winds, decided to get the rest of my Arkansas Black into storage. It started raining again while I was picking This is about half of the harvest off of a tree planted in 2017 and maintained at about 7 feet. Unsure of rootstock.
Tried one of the damaged ones and it was already pretty tasty and sweet.
wanted to try this apple but i think my seasons too short for them. most winter apples dont finish here.
how long can you keep greens growing there? kale will make it to mid nov. in most years here.
Late Nov… early Dec… my cold hardy greens usually continue… in some years kale and collards until Christmas or later. Sometimes they get bit… then make a comeback.
Then sometimes the deer mow them down.
Last year they wiped out my greens and carrot tops just before Christmas… then I harvested carrots.
