'Al Horn' pawpaw flavor

I came a crossed a white fleshed seedling tree, with so much large fruit the branches were breaking, and when I tried one open to taste it it was dripping clear juices….unfortunately it was the most awful pawpaw I had ever tasted. I promise it was ripe too🥲 it turned out to be a seedling that KSU gave to the city of Louisville to plant. The tree next to it has wonderfully dense and sweet flesh, and a slight color break. I think susquehanna/sunflower seedlings tend to be all over the place due to the high level of diversity. A few good ones, most of them are ok, and a handful of bad ones.

It sounds like the start of commercial cultivars is at the door. Firm with long self life is essential for the next step in marketing then.
Susquehanna crosses have the potential to also bring extreme flavor to the table too.

How’s the health & growth rate?
Isn’t the trunk & branches larger too?

Yes, very vigorous and the biggest girth of any of my trees.
However the fruit is smallish so far, more banana shaped and a little seedy it seems.
Not sure what I think about it. A novelty but not sure…

I kept one fruit in 'fridge about 2 months…then ate it. Decent taste. So, some do keep a bit.

I have tried “Garage West” and I (and others) have found it had a hint of coconut in the flavor profile. Buzz at Perfect Circle sells this. I started growing out a few seedlings from its seeds last spring. I think 3 germinated.

Could you ask him about more details regarding this tree (e.g. estimated age, place of discovery etc.) ?
