Here is what I do i go to the product ars pruners then at the bottom I click “Compare all 18 options” then I look through them. Are they in the USA or Japan ? Do they have good ratings and for a long time?
60 is quite high. U.S. distributers sell it for around $50 and you might be able to find a discount- at least free shipping. ARS VSX Heavy-Duty Hand Pruner | Gemplers
I believe the less expensive, genuine product tends to come from Japanese distributors. However, I received a pair of my favorite model for $36 from this distributer a couple of months ago. It should be counterfeit, but if it is, I cannot tell the difference from the real McCoy. Amazon.com Seller Profile: COL Store
Yes those are their light duty version as opposed to heavy duty version. Have several sets already of ARS from your recommendation years ago. Love them they are very high quality steel just like you told me years ago they really hold up well. The closing latch on real ARS pruners is a little sticky on some I have. That never did bother me because that’s how the real ones were.
I’m very careful so i would not have ordered from them based on the location. Many knockoffs come from that location. Your seller was in business for a long amount of time with few complaints so if they sell counterfeits they are as good or better than the originals. You were careful to choose a well liked seller which was smart. My guess is even though that area is known for issues you found an honest seller from that area.
They are the same and 1/2 isn’t an unreasonable limit. You can always cut through somewhat thicker wood if you push the piece away as you cut it and it is green wood. Using one hand to push is just as affective as using two hands to squeeze and more convenient… that is, quicker.
I used to use the big Felco twohanded number but realized it wasn’t a true asset.
Your hands are almost certainly too big for a 7, you probably should order a 9. They all have the same size jaws but you will get more power out of it by matching the size with your hands. I’m not a big guy but use an 8. Most of the women I know that use them prefer a 7. I rather doubt your hands are womanly- it wouldn’t match your forearms.
I know you don’t know either (if I could be happy) about the opening size.
I spent so much time researching for a larger opening pruner. And then a friend was wearing these that I hadn’t seen in a decade and showed them to me and I was completely sold that day.
I’ll go back to work today and tomorrow I’ll decide.
Well, the only comparison of the two by anyone who has tried both led to a ringing endorsement of the ARS, for whatever that is worth. It certainly looks like a better tool to me- that thing looks like an antique.
But as you suggested, it may all depend on the hands of the pruner- although the superior machine work of the ARS led to it cleanly cutting green onions in a manner superior to your Okies. That means it is better for fine work, I would think.
The blade opening size of the ARS in no way limits the diameter of wood you can cut- the torque comes when the blade is half closed when your hand is strongest.
