Another PNW Orchard

Wowww, Tilton is loaded!

@SoxPNW It has been the most productive by far over the last few years. Flavor Delight also has a ton. I’ll be sure to take a new picture. I’m leaning towards adding a couple more apriums next year. Hard to base much on our very very mild winter this year, but both the Tilton and Flavor Delight were out in the rain while flowering this year.

Flavor Delight spy photos. Trying a different method this year…bagging the entire tree rather than individual fruits.

Tons on Santa Rosa this year.

Flavor Supreme. Singular fruitlet. The farthest along the any has made it in the last 3 years. My luck, I’ll either knock it off myself by accident or a critter will nibble it. Hopefully, will be able to protect it, assuming it doesn’t drop.

Lots of berries incoming.

Glencoe Purple

Loganberry

Del Rio

KSU Atwood, 5 years old in June, with first flowers this year. I’ve also got a Sunflower (same age) with a few blooms about to open. Fingers crossed that the timing aligns so I can try some hand-pollination.

Early-Bird Mulberry is looking full again, with the only catch being its height. It is about 15 to 20 feet up, so I’ll likely need a ladder or use the shake method when ripe.

Shaping up to be a good year for stone fruit.

Flavor Finale, about 12 set (1st year for fruit)

Flavor Supreme (3 year graft, first fruits…farthest they have made it)

Hollywood

Splash (A ton this year. Still very much camouflaged in the tree. Should make for a pretty picture once they start ripening this summer.

You are the only person I’ve heard say the word ‘gumption’ as well as just the whole quote, besides me! Such a good word…

Howard Miracle. Consistently heavy set the last few years. First time I’m seeing cherry-esque clusters. Major thinning to do.

Santa Rosa. Fairly decent set so far.

Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Howard Miracle set heavily. From the Home Orchard Society arboretum, or from my place over the last almost 15 years. I have it on 2 different trees, one with Shiro and the other with AU Producer and its always a fraction the number of fruit compared to those.

@murky This is grafted to a Santa Rosa. They both seem to bloom at the same time. It has taken over about the back half the tree. I keep bringing it back down every year. Ripe color seems to match all the pictures. Scion is from Fruitwood. I haven’t had any reason to question validity of that as of yet.

Maybe I’d get a better set if I sprayed. I have a small branch of Santa Rosa on one of the trees. I have plenty of Asian plum and interspecifics blooming at the same time and lots of pollinators.

@murky Yeah. I imagine I am also very lucky in this little microclimate here.

I think these are from 2025. Some with more of the red blush than others.

Those look like high quality fruit. I like them over a range of ripeness, but usually with more color than that. Stone fruit get a lot of color here though compared to the pictures from California.

Here are some of mine how I like them:

@murky those look great! That year was no protection, so I may have been losing them quickly. This year, I’ll be able to let them hang longer.

Manzanilla olive. 6/7 year old tree. Tons of olives in year 3, then we had a decently cold winter with some dieback (not protected) and no flowers again until this year.

Bagging a few large sections instead of individual fruits. More of an experiment.

Cado

Gerardi with a decent amount. Still a very small plant.

Pollinated a few KSU Atwood flowers with Sunflower pollen this morning. Fingers crossed.

Like Murky,

I’ve had Howard Miracle for years and it never produced a lot. This year, however, it went crazy. It grew new limbs and they were all going to break from over setting. I also had to thin Methley quite vigorously. Plums are really astonishingly rewarding here.

Yeah, it has been the most vigorous variety that I have of grown these last few years. I’m beginning to regret the graft onto my Santa Rosa. The plan this year is to bring it down a few more feet after the fruit are gone.

I think my Howard Miracle grew so much after plateauing for years because I biocharred it last year.

Some updates, post rain.

Yellow Strawberry Guava. Lots of blooms coming.

Crimson Sky Pomegranate. Several flowers coming. Yet to hold any fruit.

No spray Liberty.

Another good year for the kiwis.

Feijoa, with abundant flowers this year. Yet to hold any fruit. One seedling and a larger Coolidge.

Early Bird Mulberry…very tasty. An intense fruity melon-like flavor.
