The links I find in a search for Early Bird show a dark berry. Is yours a common cultivar?
@murky That’s true. I got this one from OGW, so very much seems like it was mislabeled. Still tasty though.
More updates.
First apricot of the year. Flavor Giant. 35g and around 17 brix. I noticed it on the tree, tapped it lightly, and it dropped. It seems a bit early, but the flavor was excellent.
Rangpur Lime
Pitangatuba
Flavor Delight…coloring up
New Zealand Lemonade
Finger Lime
Hollywood
W. Murcott Mandarin
Black Surinam Cherry
Jabuticaba, beginning to flower again.
Shiranui Mandarin
Leah Cot. Only a handful this year. 2nd year tree. Very tasty. Between 55 and 65 grams. 18 to 20 brix.
Flavor Delight. Still questioning ripeness for these. We did get a decent rain recently, so maybe these will sweaten up with the warmer weather. I guess that’s the benefit to having a decent amount to pick. Brix so far has been between 14 and 16.
Tilton. Coloring and sizing up. Could have thinned more.
Sampled a couple of the darker ones today. Brix around 14. Maybe another week or so.
7/4
& Today, 7/12
Last of the Flavor Delights. Overall, these were much sweeter than the last batch. 18+ brix on average. No issues growing this year.
Last Leah cot. Only 4 this year. Much better flavor compared to my flavor delights.
About 10 or so Candy Hearts this year. First year for fruit. Coloring up.
Various other plums starting to color up as well. The worry now is what will still be here when we get back from two weeks on the east coast.
Squirrel strike on a very immature Lucy Glo. Cut to see color development.
Very tasty Santa Rosas this year.
Apricots from the last few weeks. The difference between a 50g Tilton and 140g Brittany Gold. The Brittany Gold was thinned very heavily this year. Most were all over 95grams. The biggest ranged from 110 to the 140. The largest I have seen so far. Very tasty too. Many many Tilton this year (did not thin). Turned into a great cake.
Spice Z starting to ripen as well this week (8/2). One of my favorites.
Jabuticaba fruit set
Psidium cattleyanum
Yellow. Farther along than the red. Typically ripen before the freeze, if we even get one this fall.
Red
Tasting another Candy Heart…eating one every week or so test ripeness. Starting 7/26, brix around 17. 8/2 at 18 brix. Skipped a week. 8/16 now at 22 brix. A little sugar bomb today, but tasty. I’ve never had these before so I’m not sure exactly what the taste is supposed to be. Have about 5 left on the tree.
