I’ve got two Raja Asian pears, I think on betulafolia, and no issues with fireblight, neither does the Olympic/Korean Giant on betulafolia, but the Korean Giant on Toringo Apple and on Clapp’s Best both seem to have some fireblight issues, so maybe it’s the betulafolia Rootstocks not Raja that’s resistant.
I ate two of them, delicious! They’re definitely competitors for my favorite Asian pears, sweet, very juicy, crunchy, I didn’t notice any bitterness even at the core, the flavor at the surface is just as good as Korean Giant, if not better, they’re ripe enough right of the tree in early September that’s a plus now but a minus in February, probably, but the skin is sand-papery enough that it slightly bothered me, that’s the ly real negative I see other than the pears are not grapefruit sized, but medium apple sized or even a bit smaller. I tried them in the last days of August and earlier today, one that was really cracked up (the only one with cracks-we’ve had a very rainy end to the summer) and one that was pecked, both delicious, the cracked one was perfectly ripe and still a week later the bird pecked on was almost there, these trees were only planted 3 years ago, and have a dozen on one and half a dozen on the other.
